Path of Exile Betrayal
Path of Exile Betrayal is the game biggest addition in 2018. From what we know Patch 3.5 promises to deliver an impressive amount of long waited fixes, redesigns, and new game mechanics. A complete pack that I’m sure will keep us home this Winter.
I will cover the basics of each one of the new game mechanic on this post, and go in dept on a dedicated post for each once we can play the expansion. First things first, the release date.
Betrayal Will Be Release For - PC - Xbox One - PlayStation 4
Keeping with the tradition, Grinding Gear Games will be deploying the last major Patch of the Year on the first Friday of December. Exiles all over the world start the Winter with new Path of Exile expansion. This one promises to be really special.
The update drops on different days for each platform. For PC gamers, servers will be running Patch 3.5 this Friday, December 7th (PST).
Xbox One players can access the new content the next Monday, December the 10th. The release for PlayStation 4 was set to February.
GGG first announced a PlayStation 4 version to be available before Christmas, but last week PoE main developer Chris Wilson delayed the release. To achieve a polished and enjoyable experience the team will have to fine-tune performance and frame-rate issues.
Jun Ortoi & The Immortal Syndicate
The Immortal Syndicate found a way to steal a powerful artifact from the order of the Djinn. The item now gives them the ability to bring their members back from the dead.
Appointed by the order, June OrToi will ask our help to investigate and put an end to the Syndicate activities. He will provide us with the means to interrogate and even manipulate the captured members. Instead of just killing them, we can try to lure them to commit treason against their leaders.
As we gather intelligence and disrupt the shape of the organization, we will face retaliation. The intervention arm of the Syndicate will send skilled Assassins to stop us from getting any further. These unfriendly foes can surprise us at any given time, even in the middle of a boss fight.
Betrayal & The Forsaken Masters
With Patch 3.5 GGG reworks the Forsaken Masters system and brings back major league mechanics from earlier leagues.
What happened to our old friends is still not clear but the name of the expansion may hold clues. From the old Masters, only Zana will continue on our side leaving an open door for new allies to join us. With the addition of new, and the return of old voice-acted characters this is a character heavy expansion.
With the help of new allies, we’ll be investigating and learning about operations of the syndicate, a criminal cartel made up of notable characters from the Path of Exile world.
In Betrayal, we’ll be able to play old league mechanics like Delve, Incursion, and Bestiary. These are available as master missions that now show in maps.
Path of Exile New Hideout System
With the introduction of the new Masters, it would be a missed opportunity to not rethink the outdated Hideout system. In Betrayal, a single hideout is available between all leagues. Not only that but now we can choose to save or load templates of our creations and share them with other Exiles.
To unlock new hideouts we find them first, they are hidden all around the Path of Exile world. If you manage to locate and clear a hideout you can claim it, including ones from the new tilesets.
Additionally, Masters no longer have levels, and neither do Hideouts. They will be full-size from the start and you can invite all the Masters at once after encountering them.
New Crafting Mechanics
Enemies in Betrayal will drop new rare and unique Veiled items. These come with new modifiers but only June can unlock them for you. You can choose one of the three possibilities rolls, and it will be crafted on the item.
The process also unlocks the mod to become available to master-craft on the workbench at the hideout. So even if a particular item with the Veiled mod isn’t great you will take what you’ve learned and applied it later to better items.
Craftable versions of Veiled mods also get stronger each time you unveil them on new items. This is a huge game changer for crafting, and another reason this could be the best expansion the game had in years.
New Maps & Skills
GGG revealed that Betrayal has 15 new Unique Items and some will have Veil mods. We also know that a total of 10 skills were either adjusted or added to the game.
Patch 3.5 will take us back to Incursion, Delve, and a reworked concept of Bestiary. The Atlas was rearranged to feature new Delve tilesets.
All things considered, a single expansion will bring a needed refresh to leveling, crafting, housing, end game farming and a face lift to the obsolete Forsaken Masters mechanic.
In my opinion a step forward the future success of Path of Exile as the best action RPG of our times.
